Swim Lessons - Levels of Instruction
If your swimmer is just starting out, BEGINNER is the level for them. The focus of this level is on water acclimation and students starting in this group do not go underwater on their own. They have also not started floating independently or with swimming actual strokes yet.
If your student is not yet able to swim more than a few yards on their own, but may float independently, then your student is INTERMEDIATE. This is student may just be starting to try strokes but they are not doing it well or efficiently yet. They cannot yet swim the length of the pool.
Lessons will start at 10:15, 10:50 or 11:30 and you will be notified at least one week in advance which session your swimmer will be in. We want to make sure kids are placed according to ability with others of the same ability.
Swim Team
If your swimmer can swim one length of the pool independently, then they should be on the recreational SWIM TEAM. Swim team is designed to help swimmers improve their stroke techniques and endurance. It is a good deal for the money with over 20 hours of pool time +meets for $85 for members, $115 non-members, price cap at $170/$230 for members/non-members. Practice is typically at 8am for the older kids and 9am for the younger kids, with some exceptions. The team competes against other recreational pools in the Salem/Keizer area. There are generally 5 meets on Thursdays and then All-City on the last Sat of July. Parents must volunteer at at least one meet.
